[ Today's Readings ]
LORD, teach us to come to your mountain. Let us see it lifted up. Let us recognize that it is higher than all of the competing mountains. May the light of your Church draw us up and in.
“Come, let us climb the LORD’s mountain,
to the house of the God of Jacob,
that he may instruct us in his ways,
and we may walk in his paths.”
We need to remain awake. The secret to staying awake is to remain in the light and in the day. If we allow ourselves to wander in darkness we cannot remain awake. As the night draws on we are unable to resist. But if we never live in the night we remain awake. We are, after all, children of the light and of day.
LORD, shine the light from your holy mountain. Shine the light that allows us to remain awake.
Therefore, stay awake!
For you do not know on which day your Lord will come.
LORD, with your light shining on us we don't need to fear your coming. Only the night needs to fear. Sin and death have cause for concern. But not us if we are children of the light.
You teach us to cast off the works of darkness. To abide in your light we must leave them behind. You yourself are the source of the light which makes every shadow flee. Shine on us, LORD Jesus.
You know the time;
it is the hour now for you to awake from sleep.
For our salvation is nearer now than when we first believed;
the night is advanced, the day is at hand.
Let us then throw off the works of darkness
and put on the armor of light;
Show us the places where the darkness still reigns in us, LORD. Give us the grace to surrender those parts of ourselves to you. Call us up to your mountain, to your house, to receive this light and to dwell in it.
I rejoiced because they said to me,
“We will go up to the house of the LORD.”
And now we have set foot
within your gates, O Jerusalem.
