23 November 2016 - there for us

Remember, you are not to prepare your defense beforehand,
for I myself shall give you a wisdom in speaking
that all your adversaries will be powerless to resist or refute.

Isn't this difficult advice? We typically either prepare at length or we are afraid to face a given situation at all. How hard it is to simply trust that the LORD will be there to take care of us. If we prepare more by spending time in relationship with him through prayer and less time trying to solve all possible problems in advance through our own thought and effort we can learn that he really is always there for us. We can learn to trust him now so that we can also trust him at crunch time. The good news is that we already have the time we take worrying as part of our schedules. Let's give that time to Jesus instead.

You will be hated by all because of my name,
but not a hair on your head will be destroyed.
By your perseverance you will secure your lives.

The victory doesn't come from us winning. Being right or successful may be part of the LORD's plan. It may not. Our ideas about success and failure are too narrow to be trusted. Who would have guessed that the apparent failure of God's plan when Jesus was crucified was actually his greatest success? This is why it is so essential to trust in God and the wisdom he gives and not in ourselves. If we do we can be assured that we too will join the song of the victorious.

On the sea of glass were standing those
who had won the victory over the beast
and its image and the number that signified its name.
They were holding God’s harps,
and they sang the song of Moses, the servant of God,
and the song of the Lamb

This is the new song of the LORD. Let us join in singing!
