19 May 2019 - love will wipe our tears away

I give you a new commandment: love one another.
As I have loved you, so you also should love one another.

May Jesus teach us how to love. We need the glory of the resurrection to stir our hearts to the love to which we are called. Without that glory things just seem to hopeless to be as all in as we need to be to love like him. It seems like love is vain and ends in death. But the glory of the resurrection shows us that what really matters is love and what truly lasts forever can only be built on that basis.

It is because they know the risen Christ that Paul and Barnabas can proclaim:

"It is necessary for us to undergo many hardships
to enter the kingdom of God."

They strengthen the spirits of the disciples. Our spirits too can be strengthened when we understand what awaits us.

He will wipe every tear from their eyes,
and there shall be no more death or mourning, wailing or pain,
for the old order has passed away.

Love makes possible what God always desired. Unlike our earthly societies of this present age we look forward to a new heavenly society wherein love is an unbreakable bond.

Behold, God's dwelling is with the human race.
He will dwell with them and they will be his people
and God himself will always be with them as their God.

In a world that questions whether any relationship is meant to last forever the love of Christians even here and now can be evidence of the glory to come.

This is how all will know that you are my disciples,
if you have love for one another.
