6 December 2017 - unveiled

On this mountain he will destroy
the veil that veils all peoples,

What is the veil that is destroyed? It is the veil that prevents keeps us from beholding the glory of God.

And we all, with unveiled face, beholding the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from one degree of glory to another. For this comes from the Lord who is the Spirit (see Second Corinthians 3:18)

The veil of our separation from God is lifted. The chief symptom of that separation is destroyed.

The web that is woven over all nations;
he will destroy death forever.

With death destroyed sorrow can finally be healed.

The Lord GOD will wipe away
the tears from all faces

But wait, where does this happen and how? It happens on the mountain of the LORD of hosts. It happens at the banquet which he provide. He gives us rich food and choice wines. This is the Eucharist in the heart of the Church. This Sacrament unites us to God in a way that enters beyond the veil fully into God's presence.

Therefore, brothers, since we have confidence to enter the holy places by the blood of Jesus, by the new and living way that he opened for us through the curtain, that is, through his flesh and since we have a great priest over the house of God, let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith, with our hearts sprinkled clean from an evil conscience and our bodies washed with pure water (see Hebrews 10:19-22).

This same Sacrament that unites us to God is also the antidote to death and the medicine of immortality.

I am the living bread that came down from heaven. If anyone eats of this bread, he will live forever. And the bread that I will give for the life of the world is my flesh (see John 6:51).

Jesus's heart is moved with pity for us because he sees how much we hunger for this bread from heaven.

My heart is moved with pity for the crowd,
for they have been with me now for three days
and have nothing to eat.
I do not want to send them away hungry,
for fear they may collapse on the way.

He sees that we will collapse along the way without it. He wants to make us eat and be satisfied. He wants to fill us with the abundance of his love. We don't need to turn aside to cities and towns to satisfy our hunger in temporary and fleeting ways. Instead, let us follow Jesus to the place where the feast will last forever.

Only goodness and kindness follow me
all the days of my life;
And I shall dwell in the house of the LORD
for years to come.
