Lord, I am not worthy to have you enter under my roof;
only say the word and my servant will be healed.
Do we trust in the word of Jesus? His word has power. We sometimes place limits on what Jesus can do. We need to experience things in a certain way in order to believe. But Jesus can heal this servant without going to where he is. He can heal us without whatever experiences we may expect to accompany that healing. When we take Jesus at his word he is free to work in more ways, no longer limited by our expectations. What in our lives is paralyzed, suffering dreadfully? Jesus wants to speak a word that will heal us today. Let's imitate the faith of the centurion who goes to Jesus seeking this word for others.
This is the word that goes forth from Jerusalem and the instruction that goes forth from Zion. From being paralyzed we gain strength to walk in the paths of the LORD. Rather than insisting that the LORD come to us and setting the terms and conditions ourselves, he instead draws us to his own house on his holy mountain .
The mountain of the LORD's house
shall be established as the highest mountain
and raised above the hills.
All nations shall stream toward it;
many peoples shall come and say:
"Come, let us climb the LORD's mountain,
to the house of the God of Jacob,
That he may instruct us in his ways,
and we may walk in his paths."
For from Zion shall go forth instruction,
and the word of the LORD from Jerusalem.
With a word Jesus is able to cure suffering that results from our sin sick nature. He is able to put an end to war. Let us seek that word from him today.
They shall beat their swords into plowshares
and their spears into pruning hooks;
One nation shall not raise the sword against another,
nor shall they train for war again.
O house of Jacob, come,
let us walk in the light of the LORD!
Jesus, I am not worthy to have you come under my roof. But call me, and I shall come rejoicing to you!
I rejoiced because they said to me,
"We will go up to the house of the LORD."
And now we have set foot
within your gates, O Jerusalem.
