6 September 2019 - whole cloth

all things were created through him and for him.

Only in Jesus can we find meaning and purpose.

The truth is that only in the mystery of the incarnate Word does the mystery of man take on light. For Adam, the first man, was a figure of Him Who was to come, namely Christ the Lord. Christ, the final Adam, by the revelation of the mystery of the Father and His love, fully reveals man to man himself and makes his supreme calling clear. It is not surprising, then, that in Him all the aforementioned truths find their root and attain their crown
(see Gaudium et Spes 22).

Our destinies are inextricably bound up with Jesus. Because in him all things hold together it is also true that apart from him all things fall apart. Without Jesus as the central driving force and organizing principle nothing else makes sense for long. No other life path is ultimately sustainable. This is especially true because of the separation and brokenness that is in the world because of sin. Only united to Jesus is wholeness to be found.

For in him all the fullness was pleased to dwell,
and through him to reconcile all things for him,
making peace by the Blood of his cross
through him, whether those on earth or those in heaven.

The centrality of Jesus explains why his disciples can't just do the same things as the disciples of the Pharisees or of John the Baptist. Fasting and prayer can no longer happen without reference to the bridegroom. We need to be careful not to tear this new cloak. We need to be sure that we do not try to pour the new wine of the Holy Spirit into old wineskins. Instead we need to let ourselves be made new creations in Christ.

Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come (see Second Corinthians 5:17).

This is the deep truth at the core of our lives as Christians but we need the knowledge of it to transform our minds and therefore our lives.

Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect (see Romans 12:2).

We are new creations in Christ. We must no longer occupy the center and the throne of our own lives. It has always been meant for him.

THE REDEEMER OF MAN, Jesus Christ, is the centre of the universe and of history
(see Redemptoris Hominis 1).

There is joy beyond imagining to be found in the Kingdom where Jesus reigns. Let us set our minds on that Kingdom. Let us enter with joy.

Enter his gates with thanksgiving,
his courts with praise;
Give thanks to him; bless his name.
