[ Today's Readings ]
Jesus said to his disciples:
“Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’
will enter the Kingdom of heaven,
but only the one who does the will of my Father in heaven.
To really know Jesus is LORD means to follow him. If we are unwilling to follow him how can we claim to know that he is LORD. Wouldn't we follow the God of the universe who designed everything? Would we ever assume we know better than he how we ought to spend our lives?
When we try to do things our own way we are subject to all the circumstances of this life. The forces of this world are in charge and we are subject to them.
The rain fell, the floods came,
and the winds blew and buffeted the house.
And it collapsed and was completely ruined.
Only in Jesus, because he is truly LORD, are we free from being subject to circumstance. When we follow him wherever he leads and docile to his lead we are firm against the forces of this world. The LORD himself is the only true rock.
Trust in the LORD forever!
For the LORD is an eternal Rock.
He shares his solidity with all who trust him. Peter is a rock because God makes him a rock.
Only God makes any city strong. It has nothing to do with pride, power, or control according to an earthly paradigm. God levels the proud to the dust but raises up the poor and the needy. We are in a good position to appreciate that trusting in the LORD is better than trusting in princes. But right now we probably feel all to subject to the political milieu of the world. Let us trust in the LORD! He makes us firm as rocks even in the face of such turmoil.
I will give thanks to you, for you have answered me
and have been my savior.
