Mary has chosen the better part
and it will not be taken from her.
Let us choose the better part whenever we can. Let us choose it without fear, knowing that it will not be taken from us. We are anxious and worried about many things when we need to focus on the one thing necessary. We need to sit at the feet of Jesus. We can't become so busy that we don't have time for this. Without time to sit at Jesus's feet we aren't doing anyone any favors. Our serving itself becomes less effective and devolves into mere business.
When we choose the better part we are transformed.
But when he, who from my mother's womb had set me apart
and called me through his grace,
was pleased to reveal his Son to me
Jesus chooses Paul when he is afflicted and ready to listen. He is still enough to hear. He is blind to other distractions. Jesus chooses us as well, though this is hard for us to truly believe. He wants to tell us about his love for us and the unique mission he has for each one of us.
We must listen first and do mission second. This is the order God intends. He knows us better than we know ourselves. He sees more perfectly than we do the work that will perfect us, that will not be anxiety and worry, and that will truly build the kingdom.
My soul also you knew full well;
nor was my frame unknown to you
When I was made in secret,
when I was fashioned in the depths of the earth.
When we listen first and receive our mission from Jesus it does not devolve into uneffective business. Rather, people who look see God at work in us.
So they glorified God because of me.
