4 April 2018 - in the breaking of the bread

Peter said, "I have neither silver nor gold,
but what I do have I give you:
in the name of Jesus Christ the Nazorean, rise and walk."
Peter said, "I have neither silver nor gold,
but what I do have I give you:
in the name of Jesus Christ the Nazorean, rise and walk."

We often focus and what we don't have and forget what we do have, do we? We see our lack of ability, of resources, of training, of experience and so many other things. We see this, and rather than realizing what we do have we despair and give up. We think that we are in no position to help others. We discount the idea that God may have given us whatever situation in which we find ourselves for just that reason. We have Jesus Christ. We have the Holy Spirit. We have all we need to help everyone in every way that truly matters.

but what I do have I give you:
in the name of Jesus Christ the Nazorean, rise and walk.

We too can speak words from God into lives paralyzed by sin. We can cause them to walk and jump praising God just as Peter does. This certainly can have a physical healing dimension if God desires it. That isn't about us, after all. It's about what he does through us, which is something on which there are no limits except the ones we place on him.

If we tend to forget what we do have let us ask God to remind us. When we begin to live as if Jesus is not risen and reigning on high in heaven let us ask God to renew that revelation in our hearts. Mass is the perfect place to receive this grace.

So he went in to stay with them.
And it happened that, while he was with them at table,
he took bread, said the blessing,
broke it, and gave it to them.

He will make himself known to us in the breaking of the bread. He will give himself to us in Holy Communion so that we know for sure what we do have. We will then be able to offer his presence and even his words and his healing to others.

Glory in his holy name;
rejoice, O hearts that seek the LORD!
